As the general public is increasingly focusing on health and fitness, the Fitness and Health Promotion certificate program will prepare you to help people achieve their goals by providing you with the knowledge and practical skills to develop and implement personal fitness training programs. This 12 credit hour certificate will prepare students to pursue the National Academy of Sports Medicine’s Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certification. - The program is 12 credit hours – comprised of 4 – 5, 8 week courses

Examines a systematic approach to personal training using the National Academy of Sports Medicine’s Optimum Performance Training model. The course provides an overview of evidence-based principles of fitness assessment, program design, balance, flexibility, strength, stabilization, and power. Designed to prepare students interested in becoming a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

Explores program design principles for fitness and health promotion, with an emphasis on the National Academy of Sports Medicine’s Optimum Performance Training model. Prerequisite: Principles of Fitness and Health Promotions or consent of instructor

Planning and implementation of a fitness or health promotion program through a case study with a member of their community. Prerequisite: Program Design in Fitness and Health Promotion or permission of instructor

Business Development and Entrepreneurship in Fitness and Health
Interfaces between human resource management, operations, marketing, and entrepreneurship within the context of entrepreneurial, for-profit and nonprofit fitness and health promotion ventures. Prerequisite: Practicum: Fitness and Health Promotion or consent of instructor.
