About our Presenters

Dr. Vanessa Cazás-Moreno is an adjunct instructor in the master’s program in applied exercise science and the doctoral program in health and human performance. She earned her PhD from Concordia University Chicago in Leadership, Health and Human Performance, and her MSc in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton.

She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction through the NSCA, USA Weightlifting Level 1 certified, and Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialist.
Currently, she is serving as the NSCA Tennessee State Director (2018 to present) and was awarded the NSCA State Director of the Year in 2020. Her primary research interests are in human performance, specifically strength and conditioning and post-activation potentiation.


Dr. Fredrick Peters, ACSM-EP, 
is an assistant professor for the Applied Exercise Science Masters program. He is an ACSM Exercise Physiologist, an ACSM Health & Fitness Journal Editorial Board Member, and the founder of The Fitness Doctor, an organization out of Ohio that provides individualized personal training, nutrition counseling, and health and wellness counseling. His research interests include aging and neurological disorders that limit movement and recovery, exercise and effect on neurological rehabilitation, physical responses to physiological stress, muscular response and recovery, health, nutrition, and obesity.
