Exercise Science Master’s Student Pursues his Passion

After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2002, Walter Prater began a professional journey through a variety of positions.  While these jobs ranged from corporate finance to software development, to STEM education his true passion as always been in health and sports.

Acknowledging this passion brought him back to school pursuing a Master’s Degree in Applied Exercise Science Program.

Knowing that he eventually wanted to combine his business background with a passion for helping athletes excel, he chose to earn a Master’s degree in Sports Nutrition and will graduate after this term.  From there, he plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Health & Human Performance, beginning with the program this fall.

Walter’s goal is to start an online business developing training and nutrition plans for high-level athletes.

When asked what advice he would give prospective students, Walter offers three main points of wisdom:

  1. Acknowledge your true passion so that you may align it with your education and career goals.
  2. Understand how to be a great student and maximize your studying skills.  For Walter, “anything that’s repeated is retained.”
  3. And start with the end in mind.  When you do this, you’ll be able to chart and follow the best educational path to achieve your goals.
