Concordia Goes the Extra Mile to Prepare for Career Success

By Published On: August 15, 2018

As society prepares for what some are calling the fourth industrial revolution, it’s no secret that many jobs will be taken over by technology — as many as 47 percent, according to The Guardian. Fortunately, the exercise science space has a bright outlook.

The number of jobs for fitness instructors is projected to grow by 10 percent between 2016 and 2026, which is a higher-than-average rate of growth. Meanwhile, the number of roles available for health educators is forecast to increase by 16 percent in the same time frame, illustrating that opportunities abound in the human performance space.

Still, having an education centered around one of these fields isn’t enough to guarantee you a coveted position. Candidates hoping to get hired for jobs that are highly sought after will need to stand out. In the health industry, that usually means earning specific certifications or an advanced degree. Both of these distinctions quantify your knowledge and may prove to be a determining factor in the hiring process.

Concordia University Chicago prepares students for career success in other ways, as well, including:

  1. Exam preparation

Each of our master’s in exercise science concentrations at CUC prepares students to sit for a specific certification exam. As a result, students exit their program with not only a master’s degree, but also a professional certificate that will help them stand out from the crowd.

  1. Networking with professors

Many professors at CUC are practitioners in their fields, allowing students to gain firsthand insights and perspectives from professionals — an opportunity you’ll rarely find outside of college. It also makes professors a great resource for discussing career options and getting valuable advice.

  1. Working with peers

Because your peers are also pursuing careers in exercise science, you’ll graduate with a useful network in addition to a degree. You can talk to people in your network about career options, interview prep, and more, knowing that they are going through the same things you are and might have some helpful tips.

CUC graduates are diverse, and so are the career paths they choose after graduation. We’ve had students go on to successful careers in fields ranging from personal training to sports performance, and many graduates have used their degrees to advance their standing with their current employers. If you’re looking for increased responsibilities and leadership opportunities in your current role, you’re a good candidate for an advanced degree.

Our program at CUC is renowned for its flexibility, and it allows students to advance their careers without putting them on hold. Our institution is backed by more than 150 years of history, but students can still learn from anywhere in the world. To us, online classes are just another delivery mechanism for a high-quality education. We still cap classes at 18 people to allow students to get to know their classmates and professors, and as an online student, you still have access to all the same resources as on-campus students.

At CUC, you’re attending an accredited university that is expanding access to higher education, and there’s no distinction between degrees earned in person or online. Our program allows aspiring students to further their careers without uprooting their families or disrupting the rest of their lives.
