Concordia Exercise Science Students and Alumni Want You To #MakeNowMatter

By Published On: July 8, 2021

In these days of COVID-19, people across America and the world are finding themselves in lockdown, disrupted from their normal routines and their regular behaviors for staying healthy.

In April 2020, we challenged students and alumni of our exercise science certificate, master’s and doctoral programs to create short videos to offer education and inspiration on how the public can #MakeNowMatter. The following are their advice on how to make health, fitness and wellness a reality during the coronavirus pandemic and beyond.

Confessions of a biology teacher: when I first took biology, I wasn’t the biggest fan. In high school, much of the content is abstract ( I did have a great teacher, though????). In college it was even worse. I remember emailing my high school biology teacher telling him how difficult it was! It wasn’t until my 4th year of college that I really fell in love with it. Now, as I work toward my M. S. in Exercise Science I really see the value and importance of biology and physiology. I love learning about this subject and applying it to my passions and in my everyday work. I always say, “every rose has its thorn.” When it comes to learning really anything, you have to learn the basic fundamentals before you can really learn the applied content in your area of interest. I’ve been enrolled in the MS program at @cucexercisescience for almost a year now and it’s all online. So yes, I’ve been doing distance learning since May of last year. I’ve learned so much and am a better teacher, coach and athlete because of it. In the last few weeks I’ve had even more time to apply the content which has been very fun! Kids, don’t get lazy now. The material your teachers are asking you to learn are stepping stones for your future career or academic pursuit. #makenowmatter #cucexercisescience Song: “Wake Me Up” by @avicii
