Concordia-Chicago student Skye Hetherington took some time out of her busy schedule to talk to us about her experience in the Master’s of Science in Applied Exercise Science program at Concordia University Chicago.

Q: What made you choose a graduate degree in Exercise Science?
A: I’m currently an athletic trainer and I thought a graduate degree would be a great way for me to stand out in the field. I believe it’ll make me more marketable in the field after I graduate.

Q: What’s your favorite class so far and why?
A: My favorite class was exercise physiology with Professor Pruitt. Not only is he a great professor but the class went deeply into how the body performs with exercise. I was engaged and the class had my attention from the start.

Q: Did you have any reservations about an online program in exercise science?
A: Yes, I had reservations about the online program because I took a couple online courses when I was in undergrad and I forgot about one for two weeks, but taking all my classes online helps keep my schedule flexible. It allows me to balance working while going to school and keeps me on track to graduate.

Q: What about the learning online do you like best?
A: I like the flexibility of an online program. The classes can work around my schedule. It makes it much easier to carry on my life while earning a degree.

Q: What advice would you give students interested in studying Exercise Science Online at Concordia?
A: It’s important to make sure that you set time aside for homework. An online program gives you the flexibility you need to balance life with school, but you do need to make sure you’re giving yourself the time necessary to study and complete your assignments. This is a great program that opens up a lot of different opportunities.

Q: What are your goals once you’ve completed your Master’s in Exercise Science?
A: I’d like to get a job as an athletic trainer and teacher at a high school. Then eventually go back to earn my PhD in Exercise Science.

Q: Any other thoughts that you would like to share?
A: Go Cougs!
